Business publication with a company directory, sourced rankings, reader voting, events and podcast guest applications.

151
companies in the directory
57
charts in stories and rankings
5
sourced rankings
  • Rankings that check their own maths: a table will not publish if its scores do not add up, and the method and evidence sit above it.
  • A company directory with sourced profiles and regulator licence numbers, surfaced inside the articles about each sector.
  • Readers' Choice voting that grows the mailing list while keeping ballots separate.
  • Instant search across articles, companies, rankings and guides.
  • Clear rules for AI: open to answer engines that cite their sources, closed to training scrapers.

223
licence checks against regulator registers
373

  • Firm profiles where each fact is entered once and flows to tables, reviews and redirects.
  • Calls to action set by each firm's audit: grade, verification and status decide the buttons, and below 50 there is no button to the firm at all.

Calls to action that follow the evidence

What a reader is invited to do depends on the firm's audit: its grade, whether it was tested hands-on, and whether it is still current. The rules are written into the code, so no page can promote a firm further than its own audit supports.

Desk audit, score 50 or more, working on the live siteThe rules, in one barDesk audit, score 50 or moreThe bar appears once the reader scrolls past the report's cover. A desk audit carries a "Not hands-on verified" tag: the main button points to Verified audits and the firm's own website becomes the secondary button. A Verified audit with a passing score gets the firm's website as the main button. Every button to a firm carries the risk warning and a compensation note.See the live audit registry

Firm names and identifying details are replaced with "Example broker" in these examples.

  • Bar charts that search engines and screen readers can read
  • A risk warning always in view, shortened on small screens

For the business

  • Request forms that land in one inbox
  • Re-audit requests accepted only from the firm's own email domains, with file uploads
  • Newsletter sign-up in five places, tracked by placement
  • Sponsored and partner labels applied automatically
  • A dated disclaimer beside every grade and score

Under the hood

  • A content editor for eight content types, with pick-lists instead of typing
  • Tables, charts and key-number strips added to any article as one line
